Australia is modernizing its border entry process by replacing traditional paper arrival cards with the new Australia Travel Declaration, a digital system designed to simplify and speed up entry for international travelers. The initiative aims to reduce paperwork, improve security, and provide a smoother arrival experience at airports and seaports.

Following a successful pilot program involving more than 450,000 passengers on Qantas international flights, the Australian Government has begun the nationwide rollout of the digital declaration. Over the next 12 to 18 months, the system will be introduced across all international airports and seaports.

Instead of completing the familiar paper arrival card during their flight, eligible travelers will be able to submit their arrival details online before reaching Australia. Initially, the declaration will be available through a web-based platform, with future plans to integrate it into mobile travel applications for greater convenience.

The pilot program has already been implemented for eligible passengers arriving in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, with Perth and Adelaide expected to adopt the system before the end of the year.

The Australia Travel Declaration is part of the Government's AUD 56.1 million Border Modernisation Program, which focuses on enhancing border security, accelerating passenger processing, and creating a more efficient, technology-driven arrival experience for international visitors.
